Klia Joe

Joe byter bete

Joe changes pasture

As the horses has spent all winter in the pastures there isn’t very much grass at Ekenäs any longer. Luckily Maria’s neighbor has a couple of pastures since she had horses a couple of years ago and they could easily be prepared. Then I only had to move horses.

I decided that we should try to move Bunny and Joe as Bunny is the one that needs most grass right now while nursing Joe. But it seemed to be the most difficult task as I hadn’t been close to Joe yet. Still, I brought them into the stable and parked the trailer close by, trying to make a path up on the trailer. Bunny stepped in rather fast, but not Joe. So bunny got nervous and got of the trailer. I thought to give it up as I didn’t want to push it very much but before that I got a grab on Joe and with some help I managed to get him in the trailer and cold hold him there until Bunny decided to get on. (That took about 5 minutes or so, she isn’t very happy about the trailer and has not been on many trips).

Bunny found traveling a little hard, but really enjoys all the food now so I think the good is more than the hard time in the trailer (about 5-10 minutes) was worth it.

Then we headed back and loaded Tea. She has never been transported before but it took about 30 seconds to get her on the trailer. Now all of them seems to be happy! Thanks all of you that helped be load horses and fix pastures!

More of Joe’s first day

With everything around I haven’t had time to fix all pictures so here comes some from the evening of Joe’s first day in life, a short movie from his first morning and some pictures from his second day.

Uppdatering

Pepper and girlfriend
Hon känns lite stel men fin.

Update

There is a lot of things going on now. Both at work, at home and in the stable. So I haven’t had time to write about it, but her is a short summary:

  • Mira seemed better and got out in a smaller paddock
    Mira

alone. Sadly she looked worse again today so I have to watch her carefully.

  • Calinka has done some dressage and a trail ride. She is nice but a little stiff. She seems to miss my attention as she often comes up to me. Today she passed a swampy area without problems – something that has been very hard for her in the past.
  • All mares (except Mira) is in the same pasture and it works out well even if Bunny keeps everyone away from Joe.
  • Pepper has covered his new girlfriend and they seems to like each other. I feel how the relationship between them have changed.
  • Today I went to an information about Shings, a new type of barefoot boots. They seems very interesting. As they still don’t have Peppers size we didn’t try them, otherwise we should have done that.
Pepper, looking at horses far away.

Ullekalvs Giocondo – Joe

I got a surprise when I got to the stable today – Bunny had escaped her enclosure (that wasn’t very stable because the real foaling stall was occupied by Mira…). Bunny have had her son and probably the alarm didn’t get of at she gave birth at a hill, making the alarm not tilting enough…
Still, the colt was on his feet, feeling very secure and in good shape. He is a chocolate – or silver black and possibly roan as well.
He is going to get the name Giocondo as is planned to use a Medieval name, something fitting with the jousting games held recently. Especially as I thought that he should have been born much closer to the tournament. But as he tricked us so much I came to think that something like “jester” would suit this foal well. As he then managed to even fool us with his birth I find that to be the perfect name. As I told my husband he got me the Italian translation instead of the Swedish version that I first thought about. And I liked the Italian better so Giocondo it is. For short that is going to be Joe! (And his ears looks a little like the hat jesters usually have…)
Calinka came to look at the baby…
