Yesterday finally Calinka got her dressage training. She was stiff (not very surprising). That meant some kicking and bucking when I asked for shoulder in, trot, well, everything that had her to stretch a bit. But, as she got warmer and had stretched a bit she softened and got a much better trotting action. Good girl! She was less good when she was indoors while Percy was worked. Then she got the rug of her back and walked at it. It was just to bring it back home to wash. She is usually very calm…(otherwise I shouldn’t have put an unattached rug on her back).
Percy then? She tried cavaletti. She felt that she didn’t want to trot, but walk went well. And it is possible to back up between the poles as well. She didn’t want to be lounged either – didn’t want to leave my side and preferred beeing petted. Sweetie <3 In the stable I trained some more with the reins and brushed her of. To be left in the stable while Pepper worked was also kind of a training session for her.
Pepper learned about the cavaletti as well. First he was rather suspicious, but within just a minute or so he waked calmly over them and had no trouble trotting over them as well. He backed up between them but sidepass – no. He didn’t want to try shoulder in from the ground as well – finding ways to escape. We have to work more on that. To step up at the “bridge” worked fine. He seems to have a lot of energy, but I haven’t found out more ways of letting him get rid of it so he got a to lazy session. It could have been better if he had liked to run in the pasture.
I was told that Calinka went on a nearly 10 kilometers trail ride today with Mariah to search for new tracks. Apparently she turned into a racing thoroughbred, not being able to walk during the first part of the ride… My guess is that she is going to have some exercise related muscle pain tomorrow.
