Säkerhet

Idag blåste det bra. Jag vet att Pepper kan reagera på det och jag varnade Sandra som skulle rida honom. Det verkade fungera bra på ridbanan så de gav sig iväg på grusvägen bortåt. De kom inte långt innan Pepper bockade. Antagligen på grund av överskottsenergi, han får ofta det när det blåser.  Sandra klarade av bockningen men böjde honom klokt huvudet in mot sadeln så att han inte skulle kunna bocka mera. Problemet var bara att sadlen då snurrade runt och hon låg plötsligt på marken.  Jag var i stallet och tog snart emot Pepper som kom tillbaka i galopp md sadeln under magen.

Stackars Sandra linkade långsamt tillbaka, men säger att det bara bör vara en muskelskada.

Själv är jag glad att det inte var som jag befarade när jag tog emot Pepper – att Sandra släpats efter honom. Stigbyglarna hade nämligen lossnat från sina fästen och satt fast i Peppers svans. MEN, det fick mig att än en gång komma ihåg hur viktigt det är att stigbyglarna kan lossna och att stigbyglarna i största mån förhindrar att man fastnar bakom hästen. En olycka händer så lätt.

Hur hade vi kunnat förebygga detta? Jag rider alltid med förbygel på min bomlösa sadel. Hittils har jag aldrig känt att den har varit på gång att glida runt, men tog rådet från vännen som rekommenderade mig sadlen. Hon hade känt av det, men hon har å andra sidan en mera tunnformad arab som saknar manke. Idag glömde Sandra att ta förbygeln och det fick hon betala ett högt pris för.

The stirrups that “fell of”, Luckily they are easy to attach again.

Today it was windy. I know that Pepper can react to that and warned Sandra that rode him. It seemd to work fine at the (outdoor) arena so they headed of along the road. They didn’t come far away before Pepper bucked. Probably because of to much energy, he gets that when it is windy. Sandra managed the buck and wisely bent his head close to the saddle so he couldn’t buck more. But, when doing so the saddle slipped and turned t the side – and Sandra found herself on the ground. I were in the stable and soon Pepper showed up with the saddle under his belly.

Poor Sandra limped slowly back, but thought it to be only a muscle damage.

I am happy that it wasn’t as I suspected when Pepper came back – that Sandra had been dragged behind him. The stirrups had fell of and got tangled in Peppers tail. BUT it got me to once more remember how easily something like that happens and how important it is that the stirrups can be released form the saddle and to use safety stirrups to minimize the risk to be dragged behind the horse- An accident happens so easy.

How could this have been  hindered? I always use a breast color with my treeless saddle. So far I have never felt that the saddle has tried to turn around, but I took the advise form the friend that recommended me the saddle. She has nearly been going around and, but she has a more round shaped Arabian with less protruding withers. Today Sandra forgot the breast color and payed a high prize for that.

I were afraid that Pepper got scared after this accident, but I could saddle him up without any problem and loung him some laps, so I think he i fine.
