Regning morgon

Torsdagmorgon bjöd på regn. Hästarna  amå bra, men Bunny verkade inte riktigt våga gå in i lösdriften så jag tänkte ställa in henne i boxen tills vädret blev bättre. Om nu bara Tea hade följt med. Istället hamnade hon mellan Bunny och de andra stona som tog chansen och ville mysa med henne – vilket fick Tea att fly. Plötligt kom Tea längre och längre från mamma häst och jag lyckades inte säga till de andra damerna att sluta. För att lösa det hela fick jag släppa Bunny igen och försöka få tag på övriga hästar – vilket de så klart inte vill. Fram med en hink med mat och så var Percy fast. In med henne till Pepper. Calinka fick jag också tag på och så fick hon stå i boxen med sjukhage istället. Me, inte vill Bunny stå inne i lösdriften för det – jag fick leda dit henne och ha lite kraftfoder med. Och när maten var slut gick de ut i regnet…
På kvällen var allt väl, Calinka tillbaka med Bunny och Tea då vädret var bättre(Björn tog ut Calinka en tur under eftermiddagen) och jag gav Bunny första antibiotika sprutan. Hon skötte sig exemplariskt. Nu blir det sprutor några dagar för att få ordning på inflammationen.
Thursday morning came with rain. The horses seemed fine, but Bunny didn’t want to get into the shelter so I thought it was better to put her in the stall until the weather got better. If Tea had joined her mum. Instead she got between Bunny and the other mares. And the other mare took their chance to finally cuddle the newborn. That got Tea to  run of. Therefore she got farther away from mum and I didn’t managed to get the mares to behave with Bunny on the lead so I had to release Bunny. The I tried to catch the others but they didn’t want that so I had to get food to do so. Percy was caught first and put into Peppers pasture. The I got hold of Calinka and put her in the stall so Bunny got the shelter by herself. But she didn’t want to stay there – even when I tried to trick her with some food…
In the evening Calinka was back with Bunny (Björn took Calinka for some work in the afternoon and as the weather was better she got to be released with Bunny). I gave Bunny her antibiotic shot and she behaved perfectly. She needs that to get rid of her infection.

Äntligen lyckades jag komma överense med youtube och fick upp et par nya videos på Tea. Hon visar ett hon redan kan tölta i ett par steg.

Finally I managed to agree with youtube and got a couple of new videos of Tea uploaded.She shows that she is already gaiting in a couple of steps.

Veterinärbesök

Bunny and Tea this morning. Bunny really likes the fresh grass.

Varje morgon sedan födseln tittar jag till hästarna och allting såg bra ut med dem. Men av någon anledning tittade jag lite extra på Bunny – jag tror det var för att Tea kliade sig mot mammas bakben. Plötsligt såg jag att något hängde ut två, tre decimeter ur vulvan. Mest av allt påminde det om navelsträngen, luktade var och satt fast. Inte bra. Maria och jag var rätt säkra på att hela efterbörden kommit ut – den var som en påse och satt ihop med navelsträngen och såg fin ut när vi öppnade upp den.

Så fort veterinärens telefontid började blev det ett samtal och med hjälp av tekniken fick han bild både på det som hängde ut och på efterbörden. Därmed konstaterade han att det nog trots allt var efterbörd men lovade att komma förbi under förmiddagen. Maria mötte upp och det var som han trodde så det blev rejält med antibiotika som hon ska fortsätta att få i några dagar. Troligen ska detta inte ge några men och hon kommer antagligen kunna betäckas om redan i sommar bara infektionen hävs. Bästa tänkbara förutsättningar  alltså, ett tag var jag rädd både för hästens liv och fortsatta avelskarriär. Nu ska vi bara passa Tea så att hon inte blir för dålig i magen då hon riskerar att få diarré av antibiotikan.

Vet visit

Every morning since the birth  I look after the horses and today everything seemed to be fine. But, by some reason I took a second look at Bunny – probably as Tea scratched herself against Bunny’s hindlegs.. The I saw something hanging out of the vulva. It mostly resembled the umbilical cord and it smelt pus and didn’t come out by an easy push. Maria and I was rather certain that all of the afterbirth came out – it was like a full bag, still attached with Tea with the umbilical cord when she was born. We open it to look that we had two horns and yes, there was.
As soon as the vet was available at the phone I got in contact with him. I could send him pictures of the thing hanging out from Bunny and the afterbirth and he already then thought that it was a part of the afterbirth. He promised to pass by during the morning and Maria meet him. It was as he expected and he could get rid of it and give her antibiotics. Probably this isn’t going to do her any harm and I can probably re-breed her this year if only the infection heals. The best possible outcome from the scenario. For sometime I thought it was the uterus hanging out and that both Bunny’s life and at least future breeding possibilities was lost. Now we just have to look extra carefully at tea as she might get diarrhea from drinking of Bunny s  milk that is going to contain antibiotics.

Hästarna gör inte alltid som man tänkt

Min plan var att låta Bunny och Tea gå för sig själv minst en vecka. De andra stona verkade alldeles för nyfikna på fölis och jag ville inte ha något bråk, särskilt som Bunny är lägst i rang. Allting var som det skulle imorse, förutom att Percy tagit sig tillbaka till Calinka. (Jag misstänker att hon kröp under staketet på ett ställe). Men när jag kom förbi på eftermiddagen var Bunny och Tea också i samma hage. Eftersom alla verkade nöjda får väll jag också vara det. Jag får bara oroa mig än mer att fölis ligger för mycket på den lite kalla och fuktiga marken. Som tur är brukar de gilla lösdriften och värmen verkar äntligen börjat komma. Och nej, tidigare har alla hästar hållit sig i sina hagar utan problem…
..och Tea kom och pussade mig på kinden idag!

 The horses doesn’t always do as you plan
I had a plan to let Bunny and Tea be by themselves for some time. The other mares looked to interested into the baby and I didn’t want any fighting, especially as Bunny as the lowest rank. Everything was fine in the morning except that Percy had got back into her pasture with Calinka. (I suspect that she crawled under the fence in a certain place). But when I arrived in the afternoon Bunny and Tea had gotten into that pasture as well. But, as everyone seemed happy about I guess I have to accept that. I just have to worry a little bit more about Tea sleeping to much in the muddy and wet pasture, but the spring finally seems to arrive and the horses usually like the shelter. And no, the horses have been into their pastures before without any problems at all…

…and Tea came and kissed me on my check today…

Isac came with me to visit today (And yes, he loves pink and chose this jacket himself)
Bunny likes to keep some distance to the others – but the accept that.

Antea dag 2

Imorse var jag förbi och kollade på mamam och fölis. Båda mådde bra. Maria var förbi vid lunch och min pappa har jobbat med elstaket under eftermiddagen. TACK! Det har bråkat ända sedan sommaren men nu måste vi få ordning på det så att Tea lär sig detta med staket…  
Jag var uppe på kvällen och ordnade en provisorisk hage åt Bunny och Tea. Nu kan de gå i lösdriften och lite utrymme utanför den. När Tea upptäckte de nya möjligheterna började hon snart galoppera – och skutta! Bunny var inte lika nöjd – hur skulle hon nu få ordning på sin bebis? Hon har blivit en jättebra mamma som har koll på sin lilla. Alla de övriga hästarna är nyfikna på nytillskottet, och allra mest Calinka – hon kan titta på Tea nästan hur länge som helst verkar det som.

Själv förundras jag över hur mycket som händer från dag ett till dag två – nu var det inte alls lika självklart att få klappa och mysa eller komma nära – Tea har mycket mer energi och egna tankar om livet.
Antea day 2
This morning I passed by to look at the mum and baby. Both was fine. Maria passed by at lunch and at the afternoon my dad worked at the fence. THANKS! There have been some problem with the electricity for some time now, but we need to fix it so Tea learns about fences…
I passed by at the evening and made a new pasture for Bunny and Tea. Now they have the full shelter and some space outside it. When Tea found her new freedom she quickly learned that she could canter and then jump! Bunny wasn’t as happy – it was hard to keep track of her baby. Bunny is by the way a very good mother, taking good care of her baby. All the other horses are curious about the little one – but Calinka is the worst one, she could just watch for ages.
I am (again) most stunned about how they change from day one to day two. Today was not at all as certain as she would accept me and let me do whatever I wanted with her. She has much more energy and ideas.
