Rockys i Europa

Då och då har jag funderat på, eller fått frågor om Rockis i Europa. Nu tog jag äntligen tag i det och har hittat lite svar. Enligt RMHAs databas ska det finns 410 Rockisar i Europa. Däremot råder det delade meningar om ifall det antalet stämmer. Vissa hästar kan ha flyttat ur Europa, några kan ha avlidit och alla föl och unghästar som ännu inte registerats finns så klart inte med. Oavsett vilket ger det i alla fall ett hum om antalet hästar.

När kom de första hästarna till Europa då? Efter lite sökande fick jag tag på schweizarna Ruth och Beat Urben. De skriver att de tog in två dräktiga ston 1998, två hingstar 1999 och två ston 2000. De har hört rykten om att det kan ha funnits en Rocky i Euorpa före dem, men aldrig lycktas bekräfta det, så troligen var detta de första hästarna. Däremot bor de inte i Scheweiz utan i Frankrike. De verkar också ha mycket information på sin hemsida, men eftersom jag inte förstår tyska kan jag inte läsa det.

Now and then I have been wondering about, or get questions about Rockies in Europe. I finally tried to find some answers. According to the RMHA’s database there is 410 Rockis in Europe but the numbers is questioned. Some horses might have moved out of Europe, some might not live any longer and all foals and youngsters are probably not yet in the registry. Either way, this gives a clue about the numbers.

When did the first Rockies arrive in Europe then? After some searching I found the Swiss Ruth and Beat Urben.  The told me that they bought two pregnant mares  to Europe 1998, two stallions in 1999 and two more mares in year 2000. They have heard rumors about a Rocky in Europe before that, but have never found out anything more, so probably their horses were the first. But, they don’t live in Switzerland, but in France. They also seems to have a lot of information on their web page, but as I don’t understand German, I don’t get it very well.
