Terrific Tea

Ibland imponerar hästarna mer än vanligt på en – idag var det Tea. Hon fick följa med själv ut ur stallet och inga hästar var nära utomhus. Vi passade på att hälsa på David och svärmor och sedan släppte jag henne i hagen. Utan problem! Inte ett enda gnägg. Tea imponerar verkligen på mig _ så lättlärd och positiv. Sedan hämtades mamma Bunny upp direkt.
I övrigt hann jag med ett bra dressyrpass på Pepper. Han gör små framsteg hela tiden.
Some times the horses impresses me more than usual – today that was Tea. She followed me out of the stable while the other horses was inside. Then we went and said hello to David and my mother- in- law before I let her free in the pasture. No problems! Not a single neigh. Tea is really impressing me – so easy to teach and so positive. Then I brought Bunny to her directly.
I also got time to do some arena work with Pepper. He is constantly making progress.

Gångarttävling i Sverige

För ovanlighetens skull kommer det att finnas en tävlingsklass öppen för alla töltande raser i Sverige!
Mer information på deras hemsida. Det hade varit så kul att vara med, men ingen av mina hästar är ännu i form. Jag hoppas att det kommer att bli flera sådanhär tävlingar i framtiden. Kanske är tävlingen i sig en hint om att hästar med fler gångarter än de “vanliga” tre och som inte är islänningar ökar i popularitet?

Gaited horse show in Sweden

Talk about rare: It is going to be a class for gaited horses, open to all breeds in Sweden. More information on their website (in Swedish). I wish I could participate but none of my horses are in enough shape. I hope this is going to happen more times and maybe it is a hint that other baited breeds are growing in popularity?

Mer egentid

Att ha gäster har sina fördelar, idag blev det mer egentid i stallet. Därmed blev det en efterlängtad skrittur på Calinka med Mika i släptåg. Calinka har på sistone visat att hon vill umgås, hon följer mig ofta runt i hagen. 

Pepper, Bunny och Tea däremot har njutit så av gräset att de inte riktigt hör när jag visslar på dem; i vanliga fall kommer de då. Jag hann ändå rida Bunny några minuter i hagen. Tanken var att Tea skulle med, men hon stannade i stallet… Därmed gick Bunny och gnäggade och ville tillbaka till stallet medan Tea inte visade sig. Bunny skötte sig ändå bra och vi roade oss med att gå över ett antal diken i hagen. Inga problem sa Bunny. Tea fick sedan prova att bli ledd själv till hagen och vara själv den minut det tog innan mamma kom ut. Lite stressad blev hon, men allt gick kanonbra!  Det kommer bli kul att jobba mer med Tea i framtiden. 

More time alone

To have guests have its advantages; today I got more time alone in the stable. Therefor I could take Calinka for a walk at the road that we both had waited long for. Mika joined us. Calinka has really wanted my attention lately – she has been following me around in the pasture a lot. 

Pepper, Bunny and Tea instead have enjoyed the grass so much that they didn’t hear when I whistle, usually they arrives when I do. Anyway, I got time to ride Bunny for a couple of minutes in the pasture. The plan was to let Tea come along but she stayed in the stable. That made Bunny call out for her and wanted to go back to the stable. But Tea didn’t show up. Bunny behaved well according to the situation and we tried to pass some ditches in the pasture. No problems said Bunny. Then Tea got to try to be led alone to the pasture and wait there the minute it took until I got her mum outside as well. Tea got a little nervous but did fine. It is going to be fun to work more with her in the future!

Man och halstäcke

Det här med halstäcke under en längre period är verkligen inte skönhetskuren för manar. Mina täcken brukar inte ge ett skav, men manen… Alla hästarna har slitit extra på den. Pepper må ha lång man, men den nedersta delen har tunnats ut betydligt tack vare sommarens flugtäcke med hals, men även under vintern slet täcket utan hals lite på manen. Flätor verkar hjälpa något, men när de kliar sig lite över sommaren (pga värme och insektsbett) verkar inget hjälpa. Att låta dem stå inne när insekterna är ute för att hålla manen fin tycker inte jag är någon lösning…

Calinkas mane right now – and it has been growing – seems as it is the rug during winter that does the most demage.

Calinkas man är dessutom den värsta – hon får ont i musklerna i halsen när det är kallt ut och går därför med halstäcke största delen av året. Och tja, så mycket man har hon inte kvar tyvärr (en gång var den vacker). Nu söker jag efter bra tips för att lösa detta.

Mane and rugs

The thing about rugs with a neck is that they just isn’t the beauty treatment for the mane. My rugs usually don’t give any rubbing, but the mane… Pepper might have a long mane, but the lower part has been much thinner thanks to the this summers fly rugs. But even the rugs during winter made damage to the mane. Braids seems to help a little, but when the horses scratches themselves (because of heat and insects bites) nothing seems to help. And I don’t find it to be a good solution to keep them indoors while the insects are out just to keep the mane nice.

Calinkas mane is the worst – she get muscle ache when cold outside and therefore wears a neck cover most of the year. And well, she don’t have much mane left (once it was pretty).  So, I need good advices how to keep the manes nice with rugs.
