What we began with…

En av alla saker jag håller på med och som gör att det blir mindre tid på hästryggen är sadelkammaren: Mannen tycker kanske inte att sadelkammare var vare sig det roligaste eller viktigaste att bygga, men det blev upp-prioriterat eftersom alternativet var att ha sadlarna inomhus… Inte för att jag har några dyra sadlar egentligen, men eftersom grannarna sagt att det varit sadelstölder i krokarna och det finns många stall vill jag inte ta risken.

Efter ett antal diskussioner bestämde vi oss för att göra sadelkammaren en våning upp. Bilder visar nog bättre vad som skett och snart är det äntligen klart. Nu ska bara golvet läggas, golvlisterna dit lite mer isolering i golvet underifrån och så lite mera inredning… Och lampor då. Men så skönt att snart ha en sadelkammare så jag slipper ha allt under presenning och i lådor. Kan säga att jag inte hittat mycket sedan vi flyttat…

The Tack Room

First we needed a stairway, and then floor and isolated walls and a roof. Now even the door is in place!

One of the things I have been working on and that gives me less time at the horse back is the tack room. My husband might not have found this project the most important or the most fun but it got high priority as the alternative was to keep the saddles in our house…Not that I have expensive saddles, but as there have been saddles thieves in the neighbourhood and there are many stables I don’t want to take the risk.

After some discussions was it decided that the tack room became on “the second floor”. Pictures probably show better what we have done and it is soon finished. We only need to fix the inner floor, more isolation under the floor and some furnishing… And electricity. So nice to soon have a place for all that stuff that has been hidden under tarps since we moved here. Maybe I can start to find all my things?

 

Even painted the walls and got some furnishing done already even if there is more to come…

 

Små vardagslösningar på vattentransport

Ibland får man försöka lösa olika problem. Eftersom vi ännu inte har rinnande vatten på gården har det i år varit fokus på vattenförsörjningen.  En gammalt vagnsunderrede byggdes sporadiskt ihop med en stor tunna för att ha vatten för några dagar i taget, men när det började frysa och traktorn hade snöplog istället för skopa fick vi dra vatten med en gammal timmerkälke som jag tursamt hittade i ladugården.

Hästarna har även haft en ovana att knuffa iväg vattenkaren och då går ofta elkabeln som värmer upp dem sönder… Även det har jag försökt lösa och det verkar ha fungerat bättre än tidigare.

Sometimes you get some problems to solve. As we still don’t have running water at the farm, much time have been spent to bring water. We rebuilt an old wagon so it could hold a big water tank on top so the water would last much longer. But, with freezing temperatures that didn’t work any longer. Instead I found an old timber sled that we could pull by the car when the tractor was occupied with plowing snow instead of carrying water.

The horses has also got in the habit of playing with the water bins. That often makes the cable that warm them up to break. So, I have tried to solve that to, and I think is works better than before.

2017 – oj så mycket som hände!

2017 började lugnt – eller snarare verkar det lugnt om man ser tillbaka. Men mycket planering och arbete pågick och bland annat sålde vi vårat hus.

I mars började betäckningssäsongen. En säsong som förvisso innebar fler ston än tidigare, men även mer krångel. Lärorikt var det oavsett.

I april åkte Honey Come Quickly, mitt nyinköpta sto i USA,  till hingsten i USA innan hon påbörjade resan häråt. Men inget ville sig vilket gjorde att hon blev kvar där ett bra tag och inte kom till Sverige förrän i augusti.

I maj föddes första fölet – Eddie ( Ullekalvs Dame Odette) och i månadsskiftet mot juni flyttade Eddie med mamma Percy och Calinka till Ullekalv! Bunny, Iris och Whizzy flyttade istället till medryttare-Maria inför Bunnys fölning av Zeb ( Ullekalvs Zephyrus) medan Pepper blev kvar med betäckningsston på Ekenäs. Så, jag hade hästar på tre ställen vilket inte underlättade eftersom alla saker alltid var på fel plats. Hos andra ägare föddes ytterligare tre avkommor till Pepper under vår och sommar.

I maj förberedes det även för vårat nya hus – bostadshuset brändes ner som övning av brandkåren och innan det hade flyglarna rivits med grävmaskin.

I början av juli blev det så dags för resterande hästar att flytta i omgångar. Människo-familjen åkte på semester en vecka medan jag stannade hemma och flyttade de viktigaste sakerna till vårat nya boende i Ullekalv. VI bor i ett mindre hus som tillhör min pappa nära nya gården tills nya huset är färdigt. Många (inklusive min man) tyckte nog de var både konstigt och olämpligt att en höggravid kvinna ensam flyttade mycket men dels visade det sig att försäkringen inte skulle täcka om flygplanet hade behövt landa p.g.a. något med min graviditet, dels blev det lugnaste sättet att flytta på: Istället för att ha sura barn för att vi flyttade, inte lekte med dem, de inte hittade sina saker etc så fanns allting ( nåja, det mesta)  på plats i deras rum när de kom tillbaka. Sedan kunde jag åka och bada med barnen medan mannen fick ta hjälp av kompisar och flytta alla större möbler,tömma garaget med mera.

Lösdriften flyttades med och det tog längre tid än planerat både att ta ner den i delar och sätta ihop den igen, men till sist var det klart och Länsstyrelsen kunde inspektera. Nu är den även större än förut.

Länsstyrelsen kom på ytterligare inspektioner eftersom vi nu har egen mark som ger EU-bidrag. Även det något nytt att sätta sig in i liksom när vi slog de nyanlagda vallarna och gjorde hösilage.Under hösten hittade jag en ny medryttare och stona har fått komma ut lite på tur i skogen och provat på löshoppning när jag nu äntligen har en paddock med staket hela vägen runt.

I slutet av november började arbetet ordentligt inför husbygget. Platta gjöts, jordvärme grävdes ner liksom vatten, avlopp och slang till fiber. Till lucia anlände huset och i mellandagarna fixades nya infarten.

Dessutom gjordes försäljningarna av Eddie och Zeb färdiga under december, montaget av nästa lösdrift påbörjades och jag satt på Whizzy för första gången.

 

 

För Mountainhäst Sverige har det även varit ett kanonår. Om jag minns rätt har det importerats fem Rockys och två Kentucky Mountains samt att de första två Kentucky Mountain fölen har fötts i Sverige!

 

2017 – so many things happened!

2017 started calmly – or at least it feels like that when I look back. But I know that we did a lot, both planning and work on the new place as well as selling our house.

Honey Come Quickly – a new RM in Sweden, imported from USA.

The breeding season started in March. A season with more mares than ever, but also much more things that didn’t work out according to plan. Still, I learned a lot.

In April Honey Come Quickly, my new mare in USA went to the stallion to be breed. But that took a long time before it worked out and she didn’t arrive in Sweden until August.

In May the first foal was born – Eddie (Ullekalvs Dame Odette) and when June came she and her mum Percy and Calinka moved to Ullekalv! Bunny, Iris and Whizzy moved to co-rider Marias place, waiting for Bunnys baby Zeb (Ullekalvs Zephyrus). Pepper stayed at Ekenäs with visiting mares. So I got horses at three places… Not the easiest way to find the stuff needed att the right way. Three mares that visited Pepper last year got nice foals during the Spring and Summer.

May was also the month when the ground was prepared for our new house. The fire department used the old house as a training object and burnt it down while three other houses was pulleddown by an excavator.

In the beginning of July were the other horses moved. The human family went for a weeks vacation while I stayed at home and moved the most important things to Ullekalv. We live in a smaller house that belongs to my father, close to the building site until it is ready and choose to move before the school started for the Autumn. I think many (including my husband) thought it was strange that a very pregnant woman moved alone but I stayed home because it turned out that the insurance wouldn’t cover if anything happened to the unborn child during the flight and the planehad to land at another place. I were also convinced that the translocation would be smoothest for all of us if I got to do it on my own. Instead of having

grumpy, bored and frustrated kids around that didn’t found their toys or clothes, that plates and cups were missing, times when we ate changed etc everything (well, most things anyway) was in place when they got home. They had a good time while I organised there stuff and when they got back we could go to a mall lake nearby to bath while my husband got to move the rest. All those heavy stuff, the garage etc.

 

The run in shed was also packed up in pieces and moved, even if it took much more time than planned. But, now it bigger than before and, once again, ok by Länsstyrelsen.Länsstyrelsen inspected some other things as well as we now have our own fields that gain EU-founds. That was also a new thing to learn as well as when we harvested our own hay silage.

In September our two-legged contribution to the family was born – Leo. This Autumn have we been a good team working around the farm (well, he has been sleeping): painting the run in shed, built fences, starting to work the horses. Isac has started in a new school and David a new kindergarten.

I september föddes det tvåbenta tillskottet till familjen Leo. Han och jag har under hösten varit ett bra team som lyckats arbeta (= Leo sovit) med alla möjliga småsaker: måla lösdrift, bygga staket, skrapa färg och börja jobba hästar. Dessutom började Isac på ny skola och David på ny förskola.

I found a new co-rider during the Autumn so the mares has started to get on some trail rides and also tried some jumping without rider now that I finally has a good place to do that.

In the end of November they started to work more with the new house. The foundation was made, earth heating cable was put in the ground as well as water pipes, internet fiber and sewage system piping. At December 13 the house arrived and just after Christmas our new road to the house was fixed.

The sales of Eddie and Zeb were finished in December as well and we started to build on one more run in shed. I also sat on Whizzy for the first time.

De trivs i lösdriften

Hästarna står gärna och hänger i sin nya lösdrift. Det bästa betyget man kan få skulle jag tro.

The horses often stand in the new shed. The best approval you can get I think.

  

Bygge

Ok, det tar tid med en bebis men Leo är för det mesta väldigt samarbetsvillig. Däremot tar det massor av tid att få till lösdriften och hagarna. Än är det den ena detaljen, än den andra. Foder kring hörn och öppningar, grus runt kanten, kondensduk i taket, panel som saknas, målning, isolatorer på staketet, stolpar, träslanorna, ja hur mycket som helst.

Nu är det i alla fall så iordning att hästarna kan gå i hagarna även om vissa lösningar är lite slarvigt gjorda och kommer att förbättras. Bara detta att få ner de grova hörn och grindstolparna tex…. De kommer vi ta lite långsamt och allt staket är inte långtidslösningen. Eftersom nya infarten inte är färdig, trädgården inte fixad och huset inte levererat finns risken att vissa delar av staketet ändå skulle behöva tas bort om vi ordnade dem nu. Nåja, hela tiden blir lite mera färdigt.

It takes time with a baby but Leo cooperates very well. What takes a lot of time is instead the run in sheds and the pastures. It is one detail on this, one on that. Getting all the finishing touches, like paint, white corners, some insulators on the fence etc.

At least it is good enough for the horses to stay there even if not all solutions is longterm but needs to be fixed rather soon. Just to get the poles for the corners and gates in the ground is such a work. Now they stand at their places – but needs to et even further in the ground to stay well for years to come.But, with some time we get all of them at a good level.As the new main entrance to the house isn’t ready, the house isn’t t delivered and the garden not fixed in level yet, some of the fences can’t be prepared for example. But, a little more is getting ready nearly every day.
