Låg effektivitet

Insulators on the poles – check. Fence line free of branches and bushes – check. Now we only need to get rid of the branches…

Nu är det inte lång tid kvar tills sista födseln på Ullekalv. Min effektivitet är låg – det känns som om det inte blir mycket mer gjort än vad jag gjorde efter jobbet förut på hela dagen.

Mycket fungerar inte på grund av min egen kropp – slå staketstolpar eller rida är exempelvis inte så lätt även om båda borde göras.

Men, jag har hittat lite jag kan göra – skruva fast isolatorer gick bra liksom att såga och klippa bort grenar i ett hörn av hagen. Få se om jag kan hitta några mera lämpliga sysslor. Och – man kan ju alltid engagera andra. Mannen arbetar med lösdrifterna och vi har haft en grävmaskin här som tagit bort stubbar i trädgård och i hage. Dessutom fick hela ladugården en ny omgång rödfärg härrom dagen.

Low efficiency

It isn’t much time left before the years last birth at Ullekalv. I am not very efficient right now and it feels as I don’t get more done in a whole day than I used to do after work some time. Many things don’t functions to do either because of my body. To get poles down for the fence or ride isn’t easy for me these days. (So I don’t do that.)

All the barn fully painted. It is such an improvement. (Now I start to dream about getting the doors and windows fixed but I know there are other things on the farm that is more urgent)

But, I found somethings that I can do: insulators on the fence and clearing some branches away in a corner. I’ll see if I can find some more suitable things to do. And you can always engage others. My husband works with the sheds and we had a excavator here that dug up stumps in our garden and the pasture. The barn got a new layer of red paint yesterday.Some of the stumps that once were part of the birches that grew along the entrance road. No that is going to be part of the pasture.

Att fixa eget hösilage

Eftersom vallarna till det som ska bli vinterhagar anlades förra hösten (de såddes in i havren som odlades) så vill jag inte använda dem till hästarna förrän de har hunnit växa till sig ordentligt. Dessutom finns det bra hagar för bete bara några hundra meter bort hos mina föräldrar. Därför valde jag att låta slå vallarna till hösilage inför hösten.

Eftersom pappa har kontakter så fick han reda på firmor i området som kunde komma och fixa med det hela. För även om han har traktorer och redskap har han inte vad som krävs för att göra hösilage. Så nu står det 18 hösilagebalar på ca 500kg vardera på vallarna. Det kommer inte räcka hela vintern, men ett bra tag. Vi får se om det blir någon andra skörd eller ej. Nu är problemet att parkera dem nära stallet så att de inte står utspridda. Än har vi inte hunnit köpa någon balgrip till traktorn, men det har jag för länge sedan insett behövs.

Innan hösilaget plastades passade jag på att skicka in prov för foderanalys och fick nyligen tillbaka svar. Efter en snabb titt tycker det ser bra ut – energi och protein verkar vara balanserat så att det nog inte behövs kraftfoder. Det är bara kalcium-fosforkvoten som inte är bra, så det blir till att hitta ett mineralfoder som kan väga upp för det.

To make your own hay silage

As the winter pastures weren’t prepared until last Autumn (they were growing within the barley that was cultivated) I don’t want to use them for the horses until then have grown stronger. And there is good pastures just some hundred meters away at my parents place. That’s the reason why I chose to get some hay silage from my pastures this year.

As my dad knows people in the area we found those that could come and fix it for us. Because even if he has tractors he don’t have the right tools for this kind of work. Now there is 18 bales of hay silage at about 500kg each in the pasture. It isn’t going to be enough for the winter, but last some time. Maybe there is going to be a second harvest as well. Now I only need to get them nicely stacked up close to the barn. But, we still haven’t had time to buy the tools necessary to move them around even if I realized a long time ago that I would need that.

Before the hay silage was made into bales I got a sample sent for analysis. The answer recently came back. After a fast look it seems to be good: energy and protein levels seems to be in balance so I might not need to add any grain. It is only the calcium – phosphorus balance that isn’t good so I need to find some minerals that can fix that.

Alla hästarna hemma

Nu är alla hästarna hemma! Så skönt! Även hästarna verkar nöjda. Pepper var den sista att anlända. Nu ska han få gå med Bunny och Percy framöver så att det förhoppningsvis blir föl även nästa år. Och kanske kan man inte säga att alla hästar är hemma – min amerikanska skönhet är ju fortfarande inte på plats. Men, det känns inte riktigt som samma sak.NU är det bara familjen som ska flyttas.

Now is all horses at home! So good! Pepper was the last one to arrive. Now is he going to spend some time with Bunny and Percy so there hopefully is going to be some foals next year as well. And maybe I can’t say that all horses are at home – I still wait for my amerikan beauty. But it doesn’t really feel as the same thing. Now is it only the family that should be moved.

Nedmontering lösdrift

Flytten närmar sig allt mer. Fler och fler saker förbereds, packas och flyttas. Det tar sin tid med 8 hästar, 2 barn och ett fullt hus. Men, inte bara vårat eget bohag och hästarna ska flytta utan även lösdriften. Turligt nog byggdes den för att kunna flyttas, men det går ändå inte på någon timme att packa ihop den. Både mannen och jag bad snällt vänner och bekanta om hjälp i helgen och efter en hel helgs jobb så är den snart klar att hämtas upp med lastbil.

Sedan ska den bara resas upp igen… I samband med det är tanken att förlänga den lite så just nu är papper inne för förprövning. Men, vi har ju till vintern på att att få klart allting.

Moving time is getting closer. More and more things are prepared, packed of and moved. It takes some time with 8 horses, 2 kids and a house full of stuff. And it is not just that – the horse shed is also moved. Luckily we built it to be possible to move it, but it still takes time. Both me and my husband asked kindly our friends for help so after a full weekend of work it is soon ready to be loaded on a trailer.

Then we only need to build it up again…. And before doing that we have to prepare some parts to make it a little bigger. And papers needs to be ok to do all that. But it has to be ready until winter strikes.

Första hästarna flyttar

Idag flyttade de första hästarna till våran gård i Ullekalv. Det blev Percy, Eddie och Calinka. De får gå på sommarbete där. Bunny, Iris och Whizzy kommer med men får vänta tills Bunny har fölat. Pepper är också på väg men har ett par damer att betjäna först.

Sist att flytta blir nog familjen – det är inte riktigt satt ett datum på det ännu. Tur att man känner folk som bor nära hästarna och kan passa dem.

Today moved the first horses to our farm in Ullekalv. It was Percy, Eddie and Calinka. The are there to graze. Bunny, Iris and Whizzy are moving to but have to wait until Bunny has had her foal. Pepper is also on his way but has a couple of ladies to serve first.
